Definition of Hard Bounce

A Hard Bounce is an information technology term for an email that is returned to the sender because the recipient's email address is invalid. Reasons for a hard bounce include a mis-typed name or domain name, a problem with the server that handles the recipient's email account, or a filter set up by the recipient's ISP (Internet Service Provider) that refuses email with certain characteristics or from particular domains.
